Counting of votes for by-elections to 46 assembly seats in 13 states and the Lok Sabha constituencies of Nanded in Maharashtra and Wayanad in Kerala is underway. Priyanka Gandhi is on course to win Kerala’s Wayanad by a landslide and the Congress veteran is currently ahead by nearly 3 lakh votes. Much of the focus is also on Karnataka, where the Congress is currently leading in all 3 assembly constituencies – Sindoor, Shegaon and Channapatna. Important personalities like JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumar Swamy (Channapatna) and BJP leader Bharat Bomai are in the fray. Assembly by-elections were held in nine seats in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Rajasthan, six in West Bengal, five in Assam, four in Punjab and Bihar, two each in Madhya Pradesh and Kerala, and one each in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya. .
