What do you need to know
- The Samsung Galaxy S25 series has hardware to support satellite connectivity using Snapdragon satellite.
- However, Samsung has not contracted directly with the satellite provider, so it depends on your career.
- Only Verizon users can use the Galaxy S25 smartphone to seek help on the satellite in an emergency, at least for now.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Series runs from Qualcomm chips everywhere, and it comes with an impressive feature: snapdragon satellite. Basically, the Galaxy S25 series may be connected to the overhead satellite for the transmission of emergency SOS messages in an emergency – but it has a big catch. Due to the complexities of non -ground network (NTN) satellites, only Verizon users will be able to benefit from the satellite connectivity feature. That is why Samsung is not even advertising it.
The satellite connectivity situation of the Galaxy S25 lineup was first exposed. Christian Fhrhr. Van Der RupWho is an independent satellite specialist and advisor (by Android Authority) Samsung chose to leave it on cellular carriers to make a Direct to Device (D2D) satellite deal with the NTN service providers, instead of making a full contract itself.
It is quite different than Samsung’s rival Apple and Google to provide D2D services. Apple produced waves when new iPhone models contribute directly with the Global Star to provide Emergency SOS free through satellite. Google has signed a contract with Skylo, a 5G NTN, D2D service provider for the Pixel 9 series – that is, users can use satellite services without adding their mobile network operators (MNOS).
As FRHR. According to the Von Der ROPP report, Samsung adopted a different strategy on one side and MNOS – also known as cellular carrier – allowed satellite operators to handle contracts. The problem is that, according to the report, Skylo is effectively able to support Snapdragon Satellite in the Galaxy S25 series Galaxy S25 series. In other words, Skylo will have a lot of advantage of communication with cellular carriers who want to provide services to its customers.
Thus we arrived at the point where Verizon is the only carrier that has contracted with Skylo for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. It is also explained why the Galaxy S25 lineup supports D2D satellite connectivity, it is a hit feature, and Samsung is not mentioning it.
It is possible that more carriers deals with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series to enable satellite connectivity for their customers in the future, or find other options. T-Mobile, in particular, is a partner with Spacex Starlink to provide satellite service on Android phones.
For now, only Verizon users can benefit from the satellite connectivity feature of Samsung Galaxy S25.
