- A South Korean publication claims that Samsung may use COE screen tech on the S26 Ultra, which was previously used on its foldables.
- This technology could provide a more colorful, bright, and power-aware experience for future owners of the device.
- Recent rumors claim that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature Samsung’s new 2nm Exynos chip quite “prominently”.
While we’re sitting in the Galaxy S25 waiting room, rumors have surfaced about what upgrades the S26 series member might get.
Rumors are coming out. The election (Korean), which launched the Galaxy S26 Ultra (by GSMArena). According to the publication, Samsung may explore COE screen technology, which could positively affect the power consumption of the 2026 Ultra model.
This is facilitated by swapping the display’s primary polarizer for “color filters” instead, the post says. The post notes that the thick polarizing plates used by OLEDs reflect light, but block glare, thus requiring users to step up when outdoors.
The report states that Samsung’s adoption of COE technology could improve color saturation with the proposed color filters for the S26 Ultra. Also, the rumored “Black PDL” (Pixel Define Layer) can prevent light from reflecting inside the screen, improving its brightness in various conditions.
Another side effect of this new technology is its thinness. Rumors claim that changing the alleged polarizer to color filters with COE tech could make for a thinner display. We’ve heard for a while that Samsung might be entering its thin phone era, so it doesn’t sound too far off.
The idea of these displays being thinner is likely because, as the publication points out, Samsung has previously featured COE display tech on its foldables (Think Fold 6). A report by Electronic specifier states that COE’s tech is typically applied “directly to the panel,” which facilitates this slim design. It also notes how its screen technology can provide longevity to the device’s display life.
Little has been said about Samsung’s 2026 phones — and that’s no surprise since we’re weeks away from the S25. However, we have heard rumors about the possible return of the “curved edge” Galaxy phone. Following a recently filed patent, speculations have grown about the possibility of Samsung bringing back its curved-edge display for future Galaxy Ultra phones. The Korean OEM has gradually moved away from this in its Ultra models, opting for flatter displays like the rest of the cast.
The patent also includes information on increasing durability, which phones with curved displays suffer from.
Moreover, rumors from December claimed that Samsung is developing a new Exynos chip for the Galaxy S26 series. It is believed that the company may “prominently” introduce this Exynos chip (on a new 2nm process) in the next-gen series. These very early rumors are worth taking with a grain of salt. It has been alleged that Samsung could still release the phone with the next Qualcomm chip in the US.
