HYDERABAD: In perhaps a first-of-its-kind effort, the state government’s IT department is collaborating with city-based non-profit organization ‘Swicha’ to build a Telugu AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT. Involving around one lakh students from Telangana, Switcha, which is part of the Free Software Movement of India, on Wednesday started collecting data from the general public about their region, local culture, farming, etc. in Telugu. I will talk. The process will begin in the next two months and the IT department plans to display it at the Telangana government’s Global AI Summit in September. “Even thinking of an AI tool in a regional language from any part of the world is not currently possible. Information is often not available in the regional language and developing a vast data set for an AI platform is a huge task. “So, we have trained the engineering students on how to collect data through special applications we have developed,” said Praveen Chandrahas, secretary, SWITCHA. Challenges and Training Once the chatbot is trained to generate content along the lines of ChatGPT, various AI-based extensions in Telugu can be made available. For example, voice commands from devices like Alexa are not available in Telugu and this platform will pave the way for such innovations, he said. The first level of data collection focuses on collecting information from about 7,000 villages in Telugu states, said Pratap Reddy, Swicha. President and Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. “For example, if someone discusses Telugu food in their village, we will record it and turn it into content. Our student volunteers will record videos of people doing handicrafts in their area. want to talk about, which will then be converted into content. Volunteers can do this through a special mobile application,” he said, in Telugu “Voice contacts can be made. For example, a farmer can get farming advice in Telugu. We will move towards this once the platform is available,” Praveen said Said that unlike big firms that spend big money, this model will cost ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Once constructed, it will open up a new world,” said an official.
