- The Galaxy S25 Ultra is gearing up to debut on January 22.
A recent rumor suggests that Samsung’s next S-Pen could be a disappointment with its upcoming Ultra model.
Information was posted by X tipster Ishan Agarwalwhich claims that the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen may drop its (usually expected) Bluetooth connectivity (via 9to5Google). The customer states that they discovered this potential loss of connectivity through “retail sources,” but failed to cite those sources.
However, this potential loss of Bluetooth could indicate that the next Ultra model of the S Pen will lose some of its features. Agarwal claims that the stylus will force users to lose “gesture and remote control” on the next Ultra.
The folks at 9to5 speculate that the removal of Bluetooth could be a “cost-cutting” move on Samsung’s part. Additionally, removing such connectivity would negate the need to charge it in the S25 Ultra. It was a sentiment the tipster discussed in his X thread. However, if this is true, it sounds like a “take it or leave it” scenario.
The tipster claims that removing Bluetooth can only add “15 to 20 minutes” to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s battery life.
Exclusive: The S Pen on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will no longer feature Bluetooth, according to retail sources! Which means you’ll lose out on certain features like gestures and remote control. How do you feel about this reduction? #GalaxyS25Ultra pic.twitter.com/ASDKB06nsx10 January 2025
The S Pen Galaxy Ultra remains a useful tool for users who like to write by hand, especially if it’s for taking notes. In general, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the S Pen can convert your handwritten words into digital text for messages, extracting text from photos, coloring and more. Interestingly, a “remote control” feature of the S25 Ultra may lose the S Pen’s ability to control its camera shutter.
Additionally, the Galaxy Ultra and S Pen usually have a pairing function. Users can add multiple styles to the device, if they want to change to another one that does more or does things differently. Current rumors suggest that may see that end with the next iteration.
With the recent S Pen rumors, perhaps the Korean OEM will provide additional features for the stylus through One UI 7. The OS skin entered its second beta before Christmas, fixing many bugs and glitches in the S24 series.
Elsewhere, Qualcomm has apparently confirmed that the Galaxy S25 series will rock its Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset ahead of its January 22 launch. Samsung will host its usual packed event where we should see the next flagship trio and, perhaps, even more surprises.
