- Leaked renders suggest a possible change in screen ratio for the Sony Xperia 1 VI, away from the ultra-tall screens seen in previous Xperia models.
- The design of the Xperia 1 VI retains Sony’s signature boxy style and includes a familiar camera setup with vertically aligned lenses and the return of ZEISS branding.
- The dimensions provided by the leaker indicate that the Xperia 1 VI will be slightly thicker but also shorter and wider than its predecessor.
We’ve already seen hints about Sony’s upcoming Xperia 1 VI’s cameras and screen resolution, but now fresh renders reveal the phone’s design, and it’s popular for ultra-tall screen Xperia phones.
Famous leaker @ownleaks dropped some sweet renders of the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VI, giving us a good idea of ββwhat Sony’s next flagship model looks like (via Android Headlines). Judging from these images, it seems that there may be a change in the screen ratio of Sony’s flagship phones.
So #FutureSquad… Since so many of you wanted me to leak it, here’s finally your first look at the #Sony #Xperia1VI (360Β° video + fast 5K renders + dimensions)!π @Androidheadline By ππ» https://t.co/WXui25dacQ pic.twitter.com/u1nT0Q8FR611 April 2024
The design stays true to Sony’s signature boxy style, as we saw with the Xperia 1 V. And the rear camera setup looks pretty familiar, with three lenses mounted vertically. Additionally, the ZEISS branding appears to be making a comeback.
These renders give us a good look at the Xperia 1 VI’s dimensions, and it looks like we’re dealing with a device that’s quite familiar in terms of size. According to the leaker, the measurements come in at approximately 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4 mm.
These numbers may not mean much on their own, but when we stack them up against last year’s Xperia 1 V, things start to get interesting. Compared to its predecessor, the new Xperia 1 VI looks like it will be slightly thicker, but it will also be slightly smaller and wider. So, we’re looking at a more compact and traditional setup this time around.
With this minor size tweak, it’s likely that the phone’s aspect ratio will shift to 19.5:9. There is now talk that Sony may ditch its beloved 21:9 display for the first time since introducing the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 series in 2019. Can be a bit disappointed with Sony’s call.
Xperia phones have been rocking the 21:9 aspect ratio for some time now. But, with leaks hinting that Sony might be switching things up to a more standard 19.5:9 screen, like some of Samsung’s best phones, it looks like the switch is pretty much on hold.
The new Xperia phone is also rumored to come with a 2K+ or Quad HD+ display, rocking around 3200 x 1440 pixels. This is a step down from the 4K panels we’ve seen in previous models.
The upcoming phone is also said to pack a 2K+ or Quad HD+ panel instead of the 4K panel in the previous models.
Pinning down the exact resolution from just one render can be a bit overwhelming. And as for that aspect ratio change we’re speculating based on the leaked Sony Xperia 1 VI render, well, only time will tell if it’s the real deal.
