The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended two senior High Court judges for appointment as judges in the Supreme Court.

The Collegium has recommended Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, Justice N. Koteswar Singh, and Madras High Court Judge, Justice R. Mahadevan for appointment as judges in the Supreme Court.

Justice N Koteswar Singh became the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on 15 February 2023.

Justice N Koteswar Singh was born on March 1, 1963 in Imphal. He is the son of former Guwahati High Court Judge Justice N. Ibutombi Singh.

He graduated from Karuri Mal College, Delhi in 1983. He obtained his law degree (LL.B.) from Delhi University in 1986.

He advocated as a lawyer in Guwahati High Court. He became a senior advocate in the High Court in March 2008. In October 2011, he was promoted as Additional Judge of the court.

Who is Justice R Mahadevan?

Justice R. Mahadevan was born on 10 June 1963. He completed his law degree from Madras Law College. He practiced for 25 years as an advocate in civil, criminal and writ areas with expertise in indirect tax, customs and central excise matters.

Later he served as an Additional Government Pleader (Tax) for the Government of Tamil Nadu, as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government and as Senior Panel Counsel in the Madras High Court for the Government of India.

He was elevated as a judge of the Madras High Court in 2013. He is currently the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
