To promote domestic manufacturing and reduce the dependence on imports, Sitaraman has proposed to be exempt from customs duties on several major minerals. Cobalt powder, lithium -ion battery scrap, lead, zinc, and twelve other essential minerals will now be duty -free, which helps in the manufacture of electric vehicle (EV) and mobile phone batteries.
In further promoting manufacturing, the list of exemption capital equipment has been extended to include 35 additional items for the manufacture of EV battery and 28 more for mobile phone battery manufacturing. These exemptions are expected to encourage local supply chain and promote India’s ambitions in the preparation of Green Energy and Digital Device.
Increase customs duty on interactive flat display
In a move to strengthen the domestic electronics industry, the government has increased the customs duty from 10 % to 20 % on the interactive flat display. The decision aims to encourage local production and reduce dependence on imported display panels.
National Manufacturing Mission
