2 killed as glass balcony of Mexican nightclub shatters

People were standing under the nightclub when the railing came down.

Two people were killed and more than a dozen injured when a glass balcony broke at a nightclub in Mexico. According to Daily ExpressThe incident took place in San Luis Potosí, about 480 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. Many people had gathered at the Rich Club to watch a concert by a popular Mexican artist, Kevin Moreno, when the balustrade collapsed. The outlet added that the victims plunged 40 feet to the main square below the nightclub.

The two dead have been identified as 21-year-old Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente and 17-year-old Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso.

A horrifying video of the tragedy is circulating on social media. It shows people standing under the nightclub trying to avoid falling debris.

Reacting to the tragedy, Town Hall representative Jorge Hernandez said the nightclub had neither requested nor received approval to host a concert with Mr. Moreno. As per Daily Express Reports.

“Due to the continuous and uncontrolled presence of people at the event, a railing on the third floor of the building came under pressure and gave way, leading to the tragedy in which two lives were lost, according to the information we have so far.” The outlet quoted him as saying.

Mr. Hernandez said 15 people were injured in the accident, some of them in critical condition.

The nightclub has been closed pending an investigation.

Last month, nine people were killed when a stage collapsed due to strong winds during an election rally in San Pedro Garza García in New Leon state, Mexico, ahead of the presidential election.

According to the governor of the state, 121 people have been injured in this incident.
