A 24-year-old Indian student was shot dead inside a car in South Vancouver, Canada, local police said.
Chirag Intel, 24, was found dead inside a vehicle in the area after neighbors heard gunshots, Vancouver police said in a statement.
“Officers were called to East 55th Avenue and Main Street on April 12 around 11 p.m. after residents heard gunshots. Chirag Intel, 24, was found dead inside a vehicle in the area. No arrests have been made, And the investigation remains. Ongoing,” police said.
Congress student wing National Students Union of India chief Varun Chaudhary has requested help from the student’s family, tagging the Ministry of External Affairs in a post on X.
Mr Chaudhary said, “Urgent attention to the murder of Indian student Chirag Intel in Vancouver, Canada. We request the Ministry of External Affairs to keep a close eye on the progress of the investigation and ensure speedy delivery of justice.” Mr Chaudhary said.
“Furthermore, we request the ministry to extend all necessary support and assistance to the family of the deceased at this difficult time,” he said.
Local media reported that Chirag Intel’s family is raising money through crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to repatriate his body to India.
Chirag Intel’s brother Romeet Intel, a resident of Haryana, told City news that he was a kind person.
“My brother and I had a very good relationship. We talked every day, day and night. The last time I spoke to him was before the accident. He was happy, he never had an argument with anyone or anything. Didn’t fight. Was a very polite person,” Romet Intel told City news.
Chirag Antil came to Vancouver in September 2022. He just completed an MBA at University Canada West, and recently received a work permit.
