The Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Monday that an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killed one of its senior leaders.
The leader of Hamas, identified as Fateh Sharif Abu al-Amin, was killed along with his wife, son and daughter. An Israeli airstrike hit his house inside a Palestinian refugee camp in the city of Tayr early on Monday.
Three more militants were killed in the attack.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a resistance group fighting Israel alongside Hamas, said after an Israeli strike hit the top floor of an apartment building in Beirut’s Kola district. Three members of the group were killed. The attack is reportedly the first by Israel within the capital’s borders.
The Israeli military has not commented on the attacks but has vowed to continue its offensive to “secure” northern Israel again and enable its citizens to return to their communities.
Israel continued to shell Lebanon on Monday, days after killing Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, on areas it claimed were “targets” of the Iran-backed militant group.
In addition to Nasrallah, Israel also killed other senior commanders of the group, including Nabil Kauk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s central council, and Ali Karki, another senior commander who died with Nasrallah.
