Buzzfeed is going with a similar logo design to fellow news website Trending Now – issuing a cease and desist notice to the AI news aggregator. Trending Now’s new logo features a curved arrow pointing up from left to right, which Buzzfeed alleges is a copyright infringement on its own identity.
There are no strict rules for Design a logo. But most people would agree that standing out from the competition is important. Dealing with the world of digital journalism, both sites inhabit the same field, but whether the allegedly similar logos lead to confusion among readers remains to be seen.

While the logo structure is the same, Buzzfeed’s red and white colorway stands out against the monochromatic black and white palette of the Trending Now logo. This is not the first time the arrow symbol has appeared in a logo design, as the Google Trends symbol has a similar ascending arrow shape.
According to Press GazetteJo Newton, managing director of Trending Now, agreed that the two sites had “very similar logos”. Despite the cease-and-desist letter, Newton sees the conflict as a “good omen”. He has yet to offer an official counter to the notice, but Newton claims that “we are looking into the issue and will respond to them in due course.”
