Hammer attack in Tokyo Hussey UniversityAt least eight people were injured on the K Tama campus Friday afternoon. A 20-year-old woman was arrested at the scene.
The attack took place on a university campus in Tokyo’s Machida district. Public broadcaster NHK quoted police sources as saying that all the injured are conscious.
Jiji Press confirmed the arrest of a woman in her 20s. Broadcaster FNN reported that the attacker appeared to be a 20-year-old student and was stopped by university staff. Tokyo police have not yet confirmed these details.
Emergency vehicles rushed to the scene.
The incident follows other acts of violence in Japan, including the 2022 assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the December 2024 stabbing at McDonald’s, and the 2019 attack in Kawasaki.
