37 years old Matthew LevelsbergerA military man, who was found dead after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, shot himself in the head before the truck exploded. Sheriff Kevin McMahal of the Metropolitan Police Department told reporters that he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A gun was recovered from the wrecked vehicle. The body was badly burnt and unrecognizable.
“The man was shot in the head before the vehicle exploded. A handgun was found inside the vehicle at his feet…” police said.
The cyber truck incident was initially considered a terrorist attack because it happened just hours after the New Orleans mass shooting. The two incidents had sinister links as both suspected attackers rented their trucks at Toro. Both served in the army. Cybertruck Man was still in the military when he died. And once he served in the same military base. However, the FBI clarified that the New Orleans ISIS man acted alone. But investigators are yet to ascertain the true nature of the cyber truck blast.
Matthew Levelsberger’s Donald Trump-Elon Musk Connection
FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans said the FBI is looking into the possibility that the attack was politically motivated because it involved a hotel owned by President-elect Donald Trump and a car owned by Trump ally Elon Musk. It happened. “It’s not lost on us that it happened in front of the Trump building and a Tesla vehicle was used,” Evans said.
So far, law enforcement doesn’t believe Levelsberger had any help in setting off the blast, with surveillance cameras tracking him alone on his trip from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas.
Was the Vegas cybertruck explosion a suicide?
Matthew Levelsburger has been in the military since 2006 and was a Special Forces soldier with drone pilot training. On the day of the blast, he was an active duty Army man in his most recent role as a remote and autonomous systems manager for the Army since November 2024.
As more details emerged about his education and military career, many questions were raised about the nature of the explosion. The explosives found inside his car were all flammable but not suitable for a large-scale explosion. With his military and technological knowledge, Levelsberger should have known that the Tesla Cybertruck would mitigate the impact of the explosion. It is not yet known whether Levelsberger chose the cyber trick for the same reason as he probably did not want anyone else to be affected.
