NATO leaders said on Wednesday that China’s deepening ties with Russia were a cause of “deep concern” and accused Beijing of playing a key role in helping Moscow attack Ukraine.

NATO leaders said in a statement from their summit in Washington that China is “deciding Russia’s war on Ukraine through its so-called ‘no borders’ partnership and massive support for Russia’s defense industrial base.” has become eligible.”

NATO leaders urged China to “cease all material and political support for Russia’s war effort.”

“This includes the transfer of dual-use materials, such as weapons components, equipment, and raw materials that serve as inputs to Russia’s defense sector,” the statement said.

The alliance said China “cannot afford to wage Europe’s largest war in recent history without adversely affecting its interests and reputation.”

The statement came before the leaders of Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea attended a NATO summit on Thursday.

Washington is representing the third year in a row that the leaders of the four Asia-Pacific partners will attend the NATO summit.

Beijing has already angrily rejected NATO’s accusations and says the US-led alliance is looking for an excuse to expand its influence eastward.

The US has been urging its European allies for years to pay more attention to threats posed by China.

Outgoing NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, “I think the message that NATO is sending from this summit is very strong and very clear, and we are clearly holding China accountable. When it comes to enabling Russia’s war”.
