With the New York Rangers out of the playoff picture, their trade deadline strategy is starting to change.

The Rangers have already traded away Jacob Truba and Kapo Kaku because the team has yet to deal with their fire sale.

NHL insider Frank Ceravelli provided some insight into the direction the Rangers plan to go.

“Right now, they tend to be sellers,” Serravelli said. “But, I still don’t believe that Chris Dre will sit back and do nothing.

“I think he’s going to be a buyer for the long haul, but probably not quite this season, if that makes any sense.”

There is a sense that Rangers general manager Chris Dre has lost faith in the core of the team and is not necessarily rebuilding but reshaping the Blueshirts.

As New York’s playoff hopes grow slimmer and slimmer, players including Chris Kreider, Will Borgen and Ryan Lindgren have all been the subject of trade rumors.

If the Rangers find themselves in a similar position a month from now, expect Dre to start stockpiling assets for the future.
