U.S. stock futures were hovering near a flat line Thursday night as traders awaited the release of corporate earnings from major U.S. banks.

Going forward, the tailwind of artificial intelligence will play a key role in determining which stocks lead the current bull run, said Thomas Martin, senior portfolio manager at Globalit Investments.
“The difference today between the Nasdaq and the Dow is very clear … it’s still a fragmented market with things being driven by AI.” he told CNBC. “That’s what you’re looking for going forward, that’s what you have to be sustainable.”
Thursday’s tech-centric rally pared the S&P 500’s weekly losses, as it is now down 0.1% for the period. The Nasdaq is on pace to close 1.2 percent higher on the week. The Dow is the underperformer, headed for a 1.1 percent drop year to date.
First-quarter earnings season kicks off Friday, with a number of U.S. financial institutions set to report earnings before the bell. These include JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Black rock And State Street.
