Sudha Murthy has shared her July reading list on social media. The Rajya Sabha MP, philanthropist and wife of Infosys billionaire Narayan Murthy has published a list of three books she will acquire this month. The collection covers a mix of genres and themes – from a fictional account of a lady inheriting a Rajwada in Mahabaleshwar to the true story of one of the biggest financial frauds of the 21st century.

In the Shadow of Inheritance by Manjiri Prabhu

Manjeri Prabhu in ‘Desi Agatha Christie’s The Shadow of Inheritance’ has been described by publisher Penguin as a “troublesome love story”. The book follows Tara, the heiress of Khanolkar Rajwada in Mahabaleshwar but uncovers dark secrets, including the mystery of her father’s murder.

Surprisingly, the description in Sudhamurthy’s book is quite different from Penguin’s account. It reads: “The book follows Sonia Roy as she inherits a Bavarian estate. As she explores it, she uncovers family secrets and hidden dangers.”

Indian author Sunita Deshpande’s bittersweet memoir depicts a life lived to the fullest and traces her journey from a student revolutionary to a stage performer, writer and an educational administrator. Sunita Deshpande was the wife and secretary of famous Marathi playwright PL Deshpande. His 1990 memoir was translated into English by Gauri Deshpande (No Relationship) in 1995.

“Explore the complexities of relationships and unfulfilled desires through intertwining stories, exploring themes of desire, loss and identity,” reads Siddhamurthy’s description of the book.

The Billion Dollar Wheel by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope

The two Pulitzer finalists document the true story of Malaysian businessman and international fugitive Jho Lo, accused of embezzling US$4.5 billion from 1MDB. “The Billion Dollar Wheel will become a classic, terrifying allegory about the financial world in the 21st century,” reads the book’s description on Goodreads.

“Learn how Zhu Lu orchestrated one of the biggest financial frauds in history. The story also tells how Lu embezzled billions from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, leading to a global corruption scandal. A network of was born,” Sudhamurthy’s post described the book.
