America is falling apart – Safety, national security and democracy are being violently eroded across our country, Donald Trump wrote on X.
US President-elect Donald Trump has blamed “open borders” for a truck attack on a crowd of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans that killed 14 people.
The attacker, identified as 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar, drove a pickup truck and plowed into a crowd gathered on Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter.
Apparently inspired by the Islamic State group (IS), Jabbar killed 14 people and wounded at least 35 in the early hours of New Year. The attacker, said to be an Army veteran and a US citizen born in Texas, was later shot dead in a shootout with police.
Describing the US as a ‘disaster’ and ‘a laughing stock around the world’, Trump wrote on X, “This is what happens when you have open borders, weak, ineffective, and virtually non-existent leadership. Also, the DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, spending their waking hours illegally attacking their political opponent, ME. that Americans must be focused on protecting the violent SCUM from within and without that has infiltrated all aspects of our government and our nation itself.”
He further wrote that the Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the incident. “The CIA must get involved now, before it’s too late. The USA is collapsing – a violent erosion of safety, national security and democracy across our nation. Only force and strong leadership can stop it. See you on January 20th. Make America Great Again! (sic),” he added.
In addition to the attack in New Orleans, another incident occurred outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning. One person lost his life and seven others were injured when a Tesla Cyber Truck exploded outside a hotel.
Reacting to the incident, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the incident was likely an act of terrorism. Musk wrote on X.
