Amid concerns about Joe Biden’s health and disaster during the first presidential debate against Republican candidate Donald Trump, actor George Clooney has asked him to drop out of the campaign for a second term in the White House.

Clooney, a lifelong Democrat and a high-profile Joe Biden supporter who co-hosted a fundraiser last month, has been among the first to ask the president to drop out of the race.

The development comes amid Biden’s refusal to end his re-election bid after his weak debate performance.

“That’s not just my opinion; that’s the opinion of every senator and member of Congress and governor that I’ve talked to privately,” the AP quoted Clooney as saying.

Clooney argued that the party should choose a new candidate at its convention next month, saying the process would be “messy” but voters would have to “wake up” to the party.

“The conservative Democrats — Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi — and the senators, representatives and other candidates who lost in November need to ask this president to voluntarily step aside,” Clooney wrote in the New York Times.

In his opinion piece, Clooney wrote: “It’s devastating to say, but the Joe Biden I was with at the fundraiser three weeks ago was not the Joe Biden of 2010. The Joe Biden of 2020. He was the man we Everyone looked into the debate,” Clooney wrote.

Democrats in Congress are deeply divided over whether to get behind Biden or push him to step aside because of persistent questions about his health and well-being. Biden has said he is fit to serve but understands the questions.

Some have expressed concern that Biden at the top of the ticket could cost the party in November both the White House and the House of Congress.
