New Delhi:
An Indian-origin woman has been arrested in the United States and charged with making terroristic threats against the mayor of Bakersfield, California. At a city council meeting on Wednesday, the woman, identified as Ridhi Patel, directed threats against officials, and criticized them for not supporting a ceasefire resolution between Israel and Hamas.
Viral video footage of the meeting captured Ms. Patel’s alarming remarks, where she expressed her desire to “gluten” city officials to “oppressed minorities.” He even invoked the name of Jesus Christ in his threats, claiming that he too would condemn them.
In her speech, she said, “I remind you that these holidays that we practice, that others in the Global South believe in violent revolution against their oppressors, and I hope that one day someone will bring the guillotine and kill you all,” he said in his speech.
According to reports, Ms. Patel’s threats were made during two separate speeches she made to the city council that evening. Initially, he expressed support for the cease-fire resolution but expected it to be rejected, denouncing the council members as “terrible human beings”. In his later address, he criticized the installation of additional security measures at the government building, such as metal detectors, describing them as attempts to “criminalize” the protesters.
